Five Reasons to Not Buy a Volkswagen Vehicle
You can be forgiven for believing in the greatness of Volkswagen vehicles. After all, the company is among the most famous automobile manufacturers in the world, with many iconic vehicles to its credit. It would be nearly impossible to imagine the late 1960s without a Volkswagen T1 van. However, reputation aside, there are many problems with Volkswagen cars. Here is a look at some of the problems you may experience if you purchase a Volkswagen.
-
UNINTENDED AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT: Here’s a frightening situation – imagine you are driving 60 miles per hour on the freeway, about to turn into the next lane, when all of a sudden the airbags deploy, leaving you unable to see what is going on in front of you, unable to do anything with the steering wheel, and possibly careening into traffic or off the freeway structure. Aaaaah!!! Some have reported the airbags deploying after hitting a rock, a pothole, or a curb. Others, however, have reported the airbags going off while driving down the highway or freeway, or even just while the car is parked.
-
TOUAREG THROTTLE HESITATION: Touareg owners have reported an alarming problem with their vehicle. A hesitation of the throttle causes a one to three second delay, usually when the vehicle is coming to a stop from a speed of less than 10 mph. When the driver attempts to accelerate, the engine revs before the transmission can engage, making the vehicle dart forward. The obvious implications of a problem like this has led the Touareg to be labeled a “death trap.” If you live in Southern California and drive a Touareg, it is highly recommended that you take it to your nearest San Diego mechanic as soon as possible.
-
HIGH PRICE OF PARTS: Not a defect, but still a problem to consider. Unless you live in Germany, the car’s country of origin, any parts that need to be fixed will be very costly. Foreign car parts are always more expensive than domestic.
-
SUDDEN NEUTRAL SHIFT: Volkswagen is recalling many of its 2009 and 2010 model cars because of a serious transmission problem. A wiring problem may cause the car to shift into neutral without warning (other than an indicator telling the driver to apply the brakes), which could potentially lead to a car crash. If you have a 2009 or 2010 model VW, get it to a legitimate San Diego Volkswagen repair service right away.
-
UNIMPRESSIVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: Volkswagen vehicles are known for their manual transmission systems. Their automatic transmission systems have not been particularly impressive. If you do not know how to drive stick shift, then do not bother getting a Volkswagen.
