Sticking up for Your Rights Is Likely to Be Paying off
I was straining on money matters so I did something I thought I would never do and looked around for a credit card. I thought of having a credit card to clear a debt and planned to clear that loan over next 4 months. In the end I guessed the bank that I have held my saving account would be more likely to offer me my first credit card. As I did not have any idea on credit card I decided to make my way down to the bank for clarification. I talked to a young man who told me I could have a credit card with a huge limit on it I did clear up that I only wanted a moderate credit limit but the big one I was offered anyway. Apparently all purchases and cash withdrawals were free of any interest charge for the first six months so I didn’t flinch to make a £1000 withdrawal to pay off my debt. I checked bank statement a month after to see that I had in fact been charged of the cash I had drawn out I now owed £1350 and would continue to be charged on that every month. Of course I wanted to talk to this young man whom I reached my understanding regarding the no-interest offer. Just happened that it was his day off and so I requested to talk to a branch-manager alternatively obviously they would understand where I stood. I was told rather crudely by the expressionless manager that certain terms and conditions applicable to the credit card offer meant that I was not able to seek any redress from the bank. This however was not justified enough. I sensed that some consumer advice would be necessary to assist me make clear where I stood from laws perspective. I imagined that my chance would be relatively than decent considering that I have exprssed that the bank to read out the agreement in direct English as I was handicap with reading. I discovered from the consumers legal helpline that I was qualified to get help on legal stuff furthermore they also promised me to present my case. I went to small claims courts then was awarded a refund on the whole amount that I spent on the card. I never dreamed I would get the cash for free and that was not my intention but standing up for yourself really pays off. We should never be averse to stick up to unprincipled practices.
