Orange has tied up with music retailer HMV to produce an online games store which is due to open next week.

Orange says that the store is a first amongst UK cellular phone operators and will offer around 400 games download for Java-enabled handsets, with more selections due to be added weekly. The store is unique and one of a kind, added Orange and though the store called HMV Mobile Games would be supported by Orange, games would be available for download to users from all networks.

Mobile games enthusiasts can obtain games for as little as £1, with newer titles priced up to £5. Fifa Manager 10 and Call of Duty MW2 are among some of these latest mobile games while the cheaper options are older classics like Tetris and Pac Man. All the games have been adjusted to run on the Java-enabled handsets, In addition offering these downloadable games, the site would also offer game reviews as well as previews and demos.

Set to launch this coming Friday, 26 March, the store application can be downloaded to mobile phones via SMS by texting “hmv” to 87010. Orange customers would be billed for any downloads from the store and the charges would reflect in their mobile broadband bill, while users from other networks can pay using a pay-now billing system.
