It is a been two months since Shakira released She Wolf. After listening to it one or more times a week, I was prepared to put it away. Then I read that Digital Spy and AllMusic gave it a rating of four out of five stars. I could not help but thinking that they have no idea her at all and take that rating as an insult to the best conventional artist in South America today. So this is my late but true review. To be fair, She Wolf has some extremely good beats and a median song ( Lo Hecho Esta Hecho, the Spanish version, not the unintelligible Did It Again ), but Shakira has something that actually works against her, the wonderful work she has formerly done. Shakira’s past is basically Shakiras worst enemy today.

Listen to me, writing this injures me more than anybody. My entire teenage years and early maturity were outlined my masterful pieces like Antologa, Sombra De Ti and Que Me Quedes Tu. I realize this each time I hear my Shakira station on Pandora and all of these great songs start to get less airplay than She Wolf, Whenever Wherever and the hot mess Hobo turned out to be. I understand that I could be a small tough on Shakira who, truthfully, can create better music that others would only dream about in their craziest thoughts, but she will be able to do far better than this.

I knew something bad was going to happen when she came out with Hips Do not Lie. It was kind of the final straw in a chain of songs that didn’t showcase her great songwriting and interpretative talent. I all of a sudden had non-Latin pals talk about Shakira as simply a hot attractive Latina and that was then when I noticed that she really had a serious case of lost in interpretation.

And though Hips Don’t Lie became one of the most successful songs in music history, it never could touch the brilliance and sweetness of Tu and Inescapable . Now, to actually make my case and to prove that I actually gave She Wolf an opportunity, I’m going to discuss each song on the album and supply a better alternative from an early Shakira song. Also, for all those folks around the world who only think about Shakira as the lady with the mad hips and non-sense words, if you might understand Spanish for just five mins, there would be no neater way to enjoy them than listening to one of Shakira’s Spanish gems.
