According to recent reports, Apple’s iPhone is the device most people use when they want to log on to the internet. Though there are other options in the market, iPhone is topping the charts where smartphone use is concerned.

Worldwide figures for smartphone usage show that half of the users have an iPhone. However, it is to be noted that these figures pertain to usage and not sales. These figures were presented in a report by AdMob that focuses on mobile advertising. The report shows that the combination of iPhones and Google’s Android OS is a winning one. In the US, phones using Android accounted for a huge 75 of the total use last month.

These figures have been collated by AdMob’s ad-serving network and it takes into consideration the advertisements on 15,000 mobile websites. When viewed in conjunction with the applications available for smart phones, this data gives an idea of the prevalence of 3G handset use.

While all this is good news for Apple, the report also shows that other smartphone makers aren’t quite doing as well. Going by data collated over the same one-month period, traffic originating from Blackberry devices made up only 12% of the total traffic while Palm Pre was down 5% to make up 5% of the traffic. This report has also provided enough evidence to prove the prevalent belief that iPhone users access and download heavy applications and thus are primarily responsible for slowing down networks.

If you haven’t yet joined the ranks of mobile internet users, take a look at pay as you go mobile broadband, however which 3G handset you opt for is a different matter all together… me, myself and I; we are iPhone addicts.
