Laser engraving is the process of engraving materials by using a specific type of laser. These marks are usually made in harder materials that have a higher resistance to alternative imprinting techniques. Laser engraving is also an extremely difficult technical and complex practice that requires a special kind of computer system software to determine the pattern of the laser, because of the extraordinarily precise cutting pattern of laser. Even though this is such a complex process, it is very precise and clean cut engravings on the surfaces are very nearly flawless and do not wear out. The process of laser engraving does not require the use of any tool bits or hand held utensils, thus, there is little need to replace any tools, as the laser technology runs of specified energy. Overall, the energy used for the laser engraving is far less expensive than the replacing of the tools and utensils that are required for other engravings.

However, due to the intensity and fragility of the laser, only specified materials may be used in laser engraving such as standard polymers and metal alloys. Laser engraving does have a smaller number of surfaces that can be used, but its precision makes up for this easily.
Basically, how laser engraving works is the ions of the laser pierce the surface of the choice material leaving a burning dip in the material that can be crafted to make up any series of patterns. Laser engraving is relatively rudimentary in processing, however, the complexity of the laser mechanisms and computer software’s make the procedure much more intricate that the practice suggests. Laser engraving is used for a variety of purposes, mainly to engrave numbers or logos onto a piece of equipment or a product to distinguish it from other like specimens.
