Thankfully, an Organized Thanksgiving
Outside the weather is cooling down and the days are glorious. Inside, however,
Cindy feels anything but glorious. The countdown is 3 days before Thanksgiving
and Mike’s parents are flying into town tomorrow to spend the holiday with them.
As she looks around her house, she sighs, not knowing where to start. “How about a
cleaning service?”, she thinks to herself. But when she finally gets around to calling,
she finds out they are all booked through the holidays. She is on her own and that
feeling of being overwhelmed takes over once again.
While Cindy is busy cleaning the bathrooms, 3-year old Megan gets a hold of a
permanent marker and decides to color herself. By the time Cindy gets her cleaned
up, Nicole is home from school and Zachary is up from his nap. So much for
cleaning the house…..
Today, Mike’s parents fly in from out of town. Cindy hasn’t cleaned the house or
made the Thanksgiving menu. In fact, she hasn’t even figured out what she is
going to make for dinner. While Mike is at the airport, she runs out to the grocery
store with Megan & Zachary in tow. Relying on her memory, she starts throwing
things in her cart. Cindy leaves with a nagging feeling that she is forgetting
something, but she can’t figure out what.
Thanksgiving day has arrived. Cindy is up early to start preparing the meal. She
opens the fridge to find her turkey still frozen solid. She had no idea it took 4 DAYS
to thaw the turkey in the fridge! Thank goodness she bought the oven bags for the
turkey. Or did she? As Cindy starts looking for the bags, she realizes that is what
she forgot. She sends Mike out to the store to get oven bags only to realize that the
stores are closed. The remainder of the day continues in much the same fashion-
one catastrophe after the next. Exhausted, Cindy heads to bed anxious to hit the
day after Thanksgiving sales with her mother-in-law in the morning.
The Friday shopping spree turned out to be less than she had hoped for. Busy
traffic, long lines and the fact that she couldn’t remember the sizes she needed or
who she needed to shop for didn’t exactly add to the experience. Cindy heads home
at the end of the day ready for the holidays to be over.
Tracy is on the back patio with the kids enjoying the fall weather. They are
making Thanksgiving cards and napkin rings for Thanksgiving day. It is a tradition
the kids look forward to doing together every year. The entire family is looking
forward to Kevin’s parents’ visit next week.
A few days before her in-laws arrive, Tracy pulls up her Thanksgiving menu on
the computer and prints out her list. After cleaning out her refrigerator to make
room for the turkey, she heads to the grocery store. When she returns from the
store and puts the turkey in the fridge to thaw, she puts Alex down for his nap, and
begins some of the holiday food preparations with Brandon. The house cleaning
service will be there tomorrow, so she just needs to prepare a few food items ahead
of time and she will be ready to go. While the dishes are baking, she unpacks her
Thanksgiving centerpiece and irons the linens. By the time Brook gets home from
school, Alex is up from his nap and Cindy is able to read for a few moments with
the kids because she is prepared for her company.
Thanksgiving morning, Brook and Brandon are beaming with pride as they help
set the table and place their cards and napkin rings on the table. Tracy and her
mother -in-law stuff the turkey and heat up the frozen side dishes while the turkey
cooks. Because so much has been done ahead of time, she still has things to do, but
isn’t running around like a turkey with her head cut off.
The meal turns out delicious and everyone has a chance to share what they are
thankful for. After the meal, Mike and his dad take the kids for a “turkey trot” (a
little jog) and on a short scavenger hunt while Tracy and her mother-in-law clean
up the dishes. The day is concluded with pie, family games and a movie. After the
kids go to bed, Tracy and her mother-in-law plan out their shopping for the day
after Thanksgiving sales.
Prepared for a shopping adventure, the ladies head out at dawn the next day.
The stores were crowded but they stayed focused, were able to get some great deals
and managed to make it home by noon. After lunch, the family celebrates another
tradition of decorating the house for Christmas.
Thanksgiving Tips
• Start a tradition where each member of the family shares one thing they are
thankful for during meal times in the month of November.
• If you plan to have your house professionally cleaned before Thanksgiving, book
your appointments now to ensure you get it done when you need it.
• Use up as much of the food in your refrigerator as possible before shopping for
Thanksgiving.
• Prepare side dishes and pies ahead of time and freeze. Do the same with a few
extra meals so you don’t have to spend time cooking during your time with out of
town guests.
• If you are traveling for Thanksgiving, keep in mind that the day before
Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year. Leave a few days before
Thanksgiving and come home several days after if at all possible.
• If you are making Thanksgiving dinner, make a menu for the day on the computer.
Type up the recipes you will be using, then use the cut and paste feature on your
computer to create the grocery list. Label a computer folder “holiday planning”,
place it in the folder and use it year after year.
• If you are hosting Thanksgiving dinner, consider delegating. Have each family or
person bring one or two dishes for the meal.
• Many grocery stores sell ready made holiday meals. If you are terribly busy, this
may be a good option for you.
• Buy some disposable containers before Thanksgiving. Pack up a little “to go” pack
for everyone to share the leftovers.
• Frozen turkeys take 3-4 days to thaw in the refrigerator. Don’t forget to take your
turkey out of the freezer in time or you may be eating Thanksgiving dinner on
Friday instead of Thursday.
• Get your kids involved by taking the time to make a Thanksgiving craft together. I
guarantee it will make them proud to set these out on Thanksgiving day. One year I
painted my children’s hands brown and each finger a different color. We made hand
print turkey cards for each extended family member who was coming to dinner.
Inside we wrote what we were thankful for about that person. It was a huge hit for
the guests and the kids! Check out www.familyfun.com or
www.perpetualpreschool.com for more ideas.
• Buy a few candles and have them burning around the house (out of reach of
children, of course!). Part of holiday memories include smell. Think pumpkin!
• Take inventory of the dishes, tables, tablecloths and chairs you have available.
Consider borrowing from a friend or neighbor instead of buying, especially if stor-
age space is limited.
• Wash & iron linens a few days prior to Thanksgiving.
• Consider inviting a single friend or neighbor to join your family meal.
• Have some toys, games or activities for the children to do after dinner so the
adults can have a conversation.
• Keep a small notebook of your budget for holiday shopping. Keep track of sizes
and how much you have spent on each person in the notebook and have it in your
purse during the months of November and December.
• Book a babysitter in advance for shopping the day after Thanksgiving.

Chilling out with AK, Suited or Not
They don’t call it big slick in poker games for nothing. Ace king, suited, unsuited, however it comes, is one of those hands that just as often as it dominates will turn around and end up not able to beat even the worst starting hand in poker, the 7 – 2. So now, how to minimize the back end on this slippery beast of a hand?
One of the main ways I have found to work with this hand, particularly in cash poker games, is not to overpush it before it’s become something. Raising with it is often the right move, and often even reraising a prior raise can work out, but more often, in the face of a raise, I prefer to slow it down a little and see a flop, see what those two big cards can turn into. Always reraising with AK will not only end up with you get reraised out of the pot (or putting your money in against KK or AA with a slim chance of winning, or just another coin flip, which in the long run for cash games aren’t that profitable), but will also end you up in big pots with not even a pair.
While I wouldn’t argue with always just following another player’s lead with the AK, I think a lot of players could do well by chilling out with the AK, even learning to fold it when there’s been too much raising before it gets to you, could improve a lot of players cash game results. AK is a speculative hand and should be regarded as such, especially in formats where every dollar lost is a dollar out of your pocket.

Blog Promotion – Creating A Buzz!
No, I’m not going to start this article off with a cliché such as “a blog is this, they are new, they are so powerful etc etc”. No my friend, if you have read articles about blogging in the past than you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about, and I’m sure that you’re getting sick and tired of hearing the same regurgitated garbage that these folks are feeding you.
Well guess what, I have an interesting surprise for you today my friend! Today we will not be using half of this article to explain what a blog is because the fact of the matter is, 99% of you know what a blog is and very possibly own one. So strap on your seatbelts, grab a coffee and get ready! Because I’m about to take you on a journey through the mystical realms of blog promotion. And here it goes:
Creating A Buzz:
Many bloggers overlook the importance of such a significant blog marketing strategy. Now I want to ask you a few questions:
- Why do people visit your blog?
- What makes your blog so special?
- What is so different about your blog compared to your competitors?
Do you understand where I am coming from? Let me ask you another question. Would you rather visit a blog that is entertaining, that is unique and unlike any other blog in the blogosphere, something which really makes you laugh, something that has the potential to reduce you to tears? Or would you like to see a blog with articles that have been roughly scraped and reprinted from the article directories? Heck, I’d much prefer the first option any day!
You see there are three types of people within the blogging field. There are those who write for the purpose of writing, they have no idea that they can possibly earn a residual income from simply posting their thoughts on an online journal.
Then you get the ignorant, annoying and absolutely pathetic so called “internet marketers” who create scripts that create thousands of blogs per minute and thousands of posts per second. These people have no intention whatsoever of entertaining human beings, their only motif is to earn a little income from AdSense through a technique what people would now call ’splogging’ and trust me, their days are almost over.
The last category is where you want to be. These types of people write for the purpose of entertaining, informing and communicating with their blogship, and at the same time they are also trying to earn a decent income from such programs as AdSense. These people have got their priorities straight and realize that to get the most from their blog they must create a buzz and excitement that will in turn have visitors coming back again and again. One very strong characteristic that these certain people employ is they write their posts in a way that will not only spark their blogship’s emotions but they also cleverly craft their posts in a way which will attract the search engine spiders to visit and index their blog high up within the search engine rankings.
But the truly successful bloggers realize that in order to lead a successful blog there must be a reason for people to visit. This reason must be a strong reason, it must be entertaining, informative and different from all the other blogs. Here are some guiding factors which have helped me spark lots of interest within my blogship:
- Humour
- Entertainment
- New stuff
- News
- Giving away freebies
I promise that by mixing these ingredients and stirring them into your blog you will leave you having hungry, loyal visitors waiting in line to see your next post. If not, then I give you permission to slap me over the face with a wet sardine.
So there you have it! Welcome to the wonderful world of blog promotion. Now get out of here and create a buzz for your blog, create excitement, create controversy and most of all have fun doing it!
Brent Turner, 17, is a young and successful netrepeneur who specializes in the wonderful world of blogging and promotion. RSS & How to Use It — Part 2
Welcome to part 2 of the article that aims to give you just enough information to help you understand RSS and start using it.
Part 1 gave you simple instructions on how to read and subscribe to an RSS site feed, part 2 will give you simple instructions on how to publish your own.
Firstly, which websites can benefit from a site feed? Well, pretty much all of them.
If you provide a service, you could use a site feed to announce amendments and upgrades.
If you sell stuff, you could use a site feed to announce new products and special offers.
And if you own a website or web log that is regularly updated with news of any description, a site feed is virtually a necessity.
Site feeds may not be exactly commonplace at present but don’t doubt for a moment that their popularity is growing. If you get a site feed up and running now, you’ll be ahead of the game for some time to come and offer a friendly alternative to email communication.
Site feeds are usually written in a code called XML. If you view the code for a site feed it will look a little like HTML.
You could:
– Learn the language and write your own site feed. Each time you want to add an update, just update your site feed page.
– Buy some fancy software that writes and updates the site feed for you.
– Or… setup a site feed online that automatically updates, for free in about 20 minutes.
Third option sound good? Ok, start by setting up your own blog at Blogger.
This is free to do and, if you want, they will even host it for you in exchange for a couple of banners at the top of the blog. The great thing about Blogger is that it works in tandem with the Google Toolbar.
Found a website you want to note in your blog? Click the icon in your Google Toolbar and it’s taken care of.
Everytime you add or change something on your website, record it in your blog so individuals and search engines viewing your blog can be made aware of it.
The other great thing about Blogger is that it automatically creates and updates a site feed for you. Everytime you post a message to your blog, this is added to your site feed as well.
You can get the address of your site feed from the Blogger control panel by visiting the section marked “Settings” and selecting “Site Feed”.
Now you know the web address of your site feed, you are free to add it to your homepage, submit it to RSS directories, anything you want.
But wait, before you rush off, you’ll want to know how to track visits to your site feed.
This bit is even easier. Just convert your site feed address into a FeedBurner address.
Go to: www.feedburner.com and enter the address of your site feed into the box marked “Feed URL:”, then click “Next >>”.
Play around with some of the options and at the end of it you will have a new site feed address that looks something like this:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/yourwebsitename Now advertise this site feed address instead of the site feed address Blogger gave you. It will do exactly the same thing, except now you can login to FeedBurner and view statistics on how often your site feed page is visited.
Among other things, FeedBurner will also:
– Dress your site feed up so when someone views it in their normal internet browser it will explain what it is instead of just showing the source code.
– Tweak the code of your site so it can be read by all RSS readers, even those that only support ATOM.
All done? Let’s recap:
You now know how to identify, view and subscribe to an RSS feed.
You now have a blog you can submit to blog directories that allows people and search engines to see updates to your website.
And you have a site feed address you can submit to RSS directories and advertise on your website. Visitors to your website can subscribe to your feed and never miss anything new you have to offer.
And you thought this would be hard? Next week, understanding quantum theory and the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle in five easy steps.

Learn about Income Drawdown Pensions – Independent Financial Guide
When you stop working you do not have to pull out your pension straight away. As a choice, you can come to a decision to defer getting a retirement income until the prime old age of 75 & if you do so you can find you get a better offer. It’s known as income drawdown.
When you are aged between fifty and 75 you are at liberty to postpone the possession of your retirement fund from one of a number of insurance businesses. Instead, you are allowed to take out as much as one-hundred-and-twenty percent of the pension fund that could have been purchased using Government Actuary rates, leaving the remaining funds safe for when you call for it. On your part, all you ought to do is to make sure that you pay for a pension annuity by the time you get to 75.
But, what would take place if you were to take the income draw down option, & then passed on? If this did happen to occur then your present significant other or those legally responsible would have 3 options: either receive a lump sum, take away tax at thirty five percent, or alternatively continue with income withdrawal, or obtaining an annuity pension with the resources. Your existing companion has until they reach sixty to defer the acquisition of an annuity, though no financial benefits are permitted to be given in the intervening time.
Why opt for income draw down? Well for the most part because it could result in you earning a more worthwhile retirement income from your pension by doing so. Secondly, you are able to decide exactly when you procured the pension annuity, hence if you stop working at a period when annuity rates are very low, waiting could be a wiser decision. If the remaining stocks & shares develop as anticipated, then jointly with the truth that annuity rates rise with age, you may ultimately be able to get a better pension than you would have acquired in the beginning.
In addition, it also means that when you die your wife/husband or dependants are taken care of monetarily, since they are lawfully entitled to the outstanding assets, as mentioned above.
Like all financial investments, there are risks subsequently though. If investment performance on the remaining stocks and shares is bad, then the level of salary payable could fall. And it is crucial to bear in mind that there is no guarantee that the pension procured will in the end be anywhere near the whole figure that could have been acquired at the kick-off. The Concept behind Today’s Magnificent LCD Tellies
When Panasonic primarily began creating a brand new leading collection of TVs more or less around the year two-thousand, their aims were:
(+) To present video quality so truly, that TV viewers would consider that they are not simply observing but essentially witnessing the action at first hand. Great offers on Sony 26 inches LCD TVs online at Sound and Vision!
(+) To fortify the idea of “being there” by absorbing the audiences in super-authentic audio sound.
(+) To develop the spectators experience by making a glossy, chic, yet utterly unobtrusive TV which wouldn’t divert the viewer from what’s going on on-screen.
(+) To make using the TV as simple as practically possibly while moreover taking full advantage of its networking facilities.
(+) To reflect this goal, the newest TV range was decided to be branded VIERA: highlighting a new VIsion ERA. The end result became the top selling and prize-winning VIERA selection of Plasma and LCD televisions that are around now, giving you the following benefits:
Image performance: Equipped with Panasonic’s personally developed V.Real II / V.Real Pro II equipment – the upshot of years and years of dedicated study and advancement covering the length of the broadcast chain from beginning television cameras through to tellies in your houses – each and every VIERA delivers visuals of mesmerising authenticity & beauty & puts you solidly at the nucleus of the action!
Unequalled audio: Featuring state-of-the-art digital tuners & some super-slim inconspicuous amplifiers all contained inside the glossy and slender body of the Panasonic VIERA itself, V.Audio sound immerses you in the on-screen world.
Sleek but inconspicuous style: From the screen to the telly stand, VIERA has charming flowing curves that are more or less organic in form. This innovative method has been the mark of VIERA tellies since the begin & gives the emotion of almost a “floating” screen – that doesn’t divert you from the on-screen world. What’s more, VIERA televisions have been engineered from the ground up with the surroundings significantly in mind and feature refillable bamboo speakers, lead free creation, & best practice production.

Christmas Shopping: Bargains For You!
This Christmas season promises to be one filled with exceptional sales and across the board bargains for eager shoppers. With fuel prices running high, interest rates climbing, and consumer sentiment mixed, merchants know that they must slash prices in order to move merchandise. Let’s take a look at some of the types of sales certain to greet price conscious shoppers this holiday season.
Early Bird/Late Night Bargains – Well before Thanksgiving some retailers are already opening early or staying open late in order to accommodate shoppers. A big lure: Get ten percent back/off of select purchases over $50. Depending on the details of the offer, you can either apply savings to your current purchase or as credit toward future purchases. Variations of this lure include incremental rewards, i.e. $15 off of purchases of $75 or more, $20 off of purchases of $100 or more, etc. Read the fine print as exceptions do apply!
Friends and Family Sales – One big retailer is offering to their employees a way in which they can pass on their employee discount to select family members and friends. By offering the same discounts that the employee receives, the employee will then mail directly to select people a discount card allowing the customer to get the same discount as the employee. For example, if the employee receives a 20% discount, the family member or a friend will get a card allowing them to get that discount too [for a limited time only]. Many times this discount can be applied alongside of sale prices for exceptional savings. Let’s just hope that an employee selects you to be part of this plan!
Secret Sales. Okay, they really aren’t all that secret. However, if you are a holder of a certain particular retailers’ charge card, you will be invited to a special cardholders only shopping event. Usually this event coincides with an existing sale and essentially allows “secret sale” participants the opportunity to shop one or two hours before the store opens for business on a particular day [usually a Saturday]. You get a “private” time to shop, at least 10 percent off of sale prices, and the opportunity to delay paying on purchases until well after the new year if you use the store’s charge card.
Certainly, not all merchant enticements are worth the bother, especially if you are unable to pay off your charge card purchases immediately. A 21.6% APR can eat up any savings you gain in no time. So, shop with wisdom to reap the greatest benefits.
