Baucus Warns that IRS Budget Cut May Cost, Not Save
U.S. Senator Max Baucus (D-Mont.), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, says that the 1% cut in the 2006 budget of the IRS will actually cost the U.S. Treasury $1 billion in lost tax collection.
IRS Commissioner Mark Everson recently reported that the funding rescinded in last year’s Defense appropriations bill could have provided for the closure of 88,000 additional collection cases and 25,000 by-mail audits.
Baucus quotes a 2003 Government Accountability Office report that indicated that there would be substantial returns on the dollar for the kinds of enforcement activities that Everson reports have been cut from the budget for the year.
“At a time when the IRS is struggling to close the annual $345 billion tax gap, it’s clear that the 2006 across-the-board budget cut is hamstringing their efforts even further,” said Baucus.
“Commissioner Everson’s estimates confirm that even small reductions in collection and taxpayer services are penny-wise and pound-foolish,” he continued. “Sparing the IRS budget may be the best way to bring in more owed revenue and end deficit spending.”
The IRS estimates that the direct return on each dollar of its budget is four to one. Phone calls to follow up on tax debts are estimated to return $13 dollars to every dollar spent. Mail audits are estimated to return as much as 11 dollars for every dollar spent.
Baucus says that when you use the overall rate of four to one return, this year’s $100 million budget cut translates to a loss of $400 million. But using the estimates from the 2003 GAO report, he explains that the losses from the cut could reach $1 billion or more.

Motivational Speaker Says: Relax, You Did The Best You Could!
One of the main reasons people are poor time managers is the fact that they spend very little time in the present, in the here and now.
They’re grieving about something in their past, dwelling on it, wishing they could, somehow, undo it, or do it over again.
Of course, when we get stuck in the rear view mirror we can’t see what’s on the road ahead.
One way to let go of the past, totally and completely is to tell yourself: “I did the best I could do.”
Repeat this a thousand times, if you must, until it sounds utterly reasonable, because it is simply that: reasonable.
Would you ever purposely do less than your best?
It’s possible, but not likely.
In most circumstances, whether now you look back and believe you won, lost or tied, you did everything in your power to win.
And whatever is plaguing you should really be over, put to rest.
Once it is, you can move on. You’ll feel renewed vigor and have a clearer focus.
Some wise person said as human beings, occupying our planet at this time, we’re truly being challenged, and life isn’t easy.
With that in mind, excuse yourself for your shortcomings and for your setbacks and apparent failures.
Under the circumstances, you were, and we all are, doing our best!

Mind is the Forerunner of All States
Our lives and the circumstances we live in are largely the result of our own thoughts and beliefs. The sum total of our thoughts, if they are positive, will result in a positive life for us. The converse is just as true. If we think negatively most of the time, we tend to attract negative circumstances into our life.
This great truth is known to all mystics and ancient sages. They may have said it in different ways but they all point to the same thing.
The Buddhists know this as the Law of Kamma. Jesus said, “You reap what you sow.” If you plant an apple seed, you get an apple tree. The seed is your thought imprint. The apple tree is what is manifested in your physical world. The ancient Egyptians called this phenomenon…
AS WITHIN, SO WITHOUT
What they mean is that our outer physical world and circumstances are merely reflections of our inner mental realities.
Our thoughts are energetic waves and they are subjected to the Law of Sympathetic Resonance. According to this law, when an object with a specific frequency vibrates and is brought near another object with similar frequency, it will cause the second object to vibrate as well.
The classic example for this is that of a singer with a high-pitched voice breaking a glass. In science classes, this same principle is demonstrated by bringing a vibrating tuning fork to another tuning fork with similar frequency. The second tuning fork will start to vibrate on its own.
In modern time, this universal principle is called the Universal Law of Attraction.
It is important to note that the second object can only vibrate if it is of similar frequency to the first object. What this means is that…
LIKE ATTRACTS LIKE
The same principle applies to our thoughts and beliefs. The more good thoughts we have, the better our lives will be. The more positive thoughts we have the more positive circumstances we encounter in our lives. The same is true with the negative.
Another important principle to remember is that….
OUR MIND CANNOT DIFFERENTIATE GOOD FROM BAD
More accurately, our subconscious mind cannot differentiate the good from the bad. This is because our subconscious mind largely represents our mind in its natural state – a mind that is pure and non-judgmental. Thus our conscious mind gets the important task of being the gatekeeper – guarding the thoughts that get into our subconscious mind.
If you’ve ever tried to guard the thoughts that get into your subconscious mind, then you’ll know what a formidable task this is. The more mindful or aware you are, the easier it is to guard what goes through your mind. We will deal with this mindfulness or self-awareness later.
EXERCISE
Start applying these principles in your life by doing these:
1. Guard every thought carefully. Be a conscious gatekeeper to your subconscious mind. Remember that whatever you think about, especially when combined with the emotions of desire or fear, you will attract into your life. So make sure you attract what you want for your life by constantly thinking only about what you truly want.
2. Feed your mind constantly with new information, images and ideas of the person you want to be and the life you want to live. By creating this inner attitude of your mind, you change the outer aspects of your reality.
Do these two exercises daily for one week and see the positive transformation that comes into your life

Upcoming year European climber Anthony Loeff is reporting the scales for Chomolungma and Mont Blanc in France
“the Mount Everest this year became a political pawn,” he said with some frustration.
More than 3205 people have climbed to the summit since it was first conquered in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary, who died in January, and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay.
They flexed their muscles this year all the in name of the Olympic spirit, but it was hardly spirited at all.”
Nepalese man, 77, oldest mountaineer to conquer the peak of Chomolungma or Mount Everest Bahadur Sherchan last attempt resulted in the rescue of Lincoln Hall, an Australian climber who was left by his team in the “death zone.”
Bahadur Sherchan and four climbing guides reached the 29,035-foot (8,850-meters) summit of the world’s highest mountain early Sunday, said Ramesh Chretri, an official with Nepal’s ministry of tourism.
Andrew Brash returned this week from Nepal after successfully climbing to the summit of Mount Everest. The 75-year-old man from Nepal is now the oldest person to have reached the top of Everest. The Chinese were flying their airplanes over Mt Everest and had Chinese officials in Kathmandu. With the Chinese preparing for the impending summer Olympic Games, Min Bahadur Sherchan noted that the government’s actions hardly reflected the Olympic spirit. This season alpinist Anthony Loeff is reporting the scales for Everest after he reached the top of Mont Blanc earlier this season.
“The Chinese weren’t allowing anybody on Mount Everest. They ended up commandeering it for themselves, even though Chomolungma is shared by two countries. As he planned for the climb, Sherchan told reporters he wanted to inspire fellow senior citizens. He also said many Nepalese have established records on Chomolungma or Mount Everest, so it was only fitting that the record for the oldest climber to reach the summit should also belong to a Nepali. His first found him within 245 metres of the peak when his team stopped to help a fellow mountaineer who was left for dead. Two years later, Bahadur Sherchan, a University of Calgary alumni, returned to Mt Everest to finish what he had started.
Now that Min Bahadur Sherchan has successfully scaled the tallest mountain in the world, he is once again ready to focus on his family. Further, the decision to actualize a long-time personal goal left Andrew Brash with some internal uncertainties, he cited the political actions of China and Nepal as providing the greatest adversity he faced on his journey. They basically coerced the Nepali government to not allow any climbers past camp two on the Nepali side. Sherchan just 11 days away from his 77th birthday beat the age record set last year by 71-year-old Japanese teacher Katsusuke Yanagisawa.
Hall was frostbitten and severely disoriented due to altitude sickness. Min Bahadur Sherchan returned a hero to Calgarians. Therefore, he was all too aware of the potential dangers the Mount Everest could bring. Certain parts of the climb are more dangerous than others and it is important for climbers to remain focused

Why I Avoid Negative People Like The Plague
If you’re trying to make any sort of change in your life, to take your self or your business to a higher level, there’s a certain kind of person that you should avoid like the plague.
They’re the pessimists, the negative people who see life through glasses coloured with their own limiting beliefs and low self-esteem.
These are people who can never see the good side of things… who insist that someone or something is out to get them.
Who have so much self-loathing, that the only way they can feel good about themselves is by judging others. So little self-esteem that they end up pulling you down with them.
They don’t seem to understand that negativity and hate only breeds more of the same. And what you give out, you get back.
Some of them try to cover it up with arrogance, masquerading as over-confidence. I’ve met a few of these types, and I avoid them like the plague…
Why, you ask? Do I not want to help them?
Well, yes. I used to feel sorry for them, until I realised that you can only help someone who WANTS to be helped.
And the pessimists don’t want to be helped. Because there’s a payoff for their behaviour.
And that payoff is – not having to take responsibility for their lives. Not having to take action to drag themselves out of the morass of their mind.
So they continue being negative, pulling others down and feeling sorry for themselves.
They justify their negativity as being realistic. And continue to attract more of the same.
Then they wonder why they’re in the miserable situation they’re in.
And if you have someone like this in your life. Someone who always makes you feel worse, I’ll give you some very good advice.
Cut them off from your life! Right now!
Because like a blood-sucking leech, they will drain you of all the positive feelings you have and drag you down into their miserable little world.
And if you happen to be a pessimist, here’s some advice for you.
Change your attitude!
You can choose to think negative thoughts or positive thoughts. Guess which ones will help you grow?
You can choose to judge people or see the good in them. Guess which attitude will build better relationships?
You can choose to interpret life events in a way that disempowers you or one that empowers you. Guess which attitude will help you recover faster from tragedy?
You can choose to blame others or take responsibility for your life. Guess which attitude will help you take action and grow as a person?
Your attitude is a choice. Why not choose to make it a good one?

How To Avoid Online Dating Risks
Online dating has become a popular service nowadays. In fact, so many people all over the world, mostly singles, are members of various online dating services to find their perfect match.
While online dating services have benefits, there are some serious drawbacks to it too. The most important concern is your safety risk. How would you know that the otherwise sweet and loving chat mate of yours you need in an online service turns out to be a rapist or stalker?
Like traditional dating, online dating has some risks. To avoid danger, consider the following tips.
1. In your profile, it is good not to include detailed personal information, such as your personal home address, job address, telephone number, or email address. Dating sites, especially the reputable ones, make sure that all their members are safe. Some do it by checking the criminal records of their members, some automatically deleting any detailed information in your personal profile.
2. It would be good if you know more about the person you just met online before giving him or her any personal information about you. Take some time in knowing him or her first before setting up a date with the person.
3. Don’t put false information in your profile or a fake photograph. If you want people to be honest with you too, be genuine in your information. Honesty is the best policy. A clich©, yes; but it works in online dating.
4. It might be good to have an email account set up in fee email sites like Yahoo or Hotmail. Give this email address to online users who want to have your email, instead of your main email address. In case you don’t want a person to contact you again, then at least your main email address is safe and free from his or her emails.
5. Be wary of people who are lying to you. Be careful of people who:
- Want to meet up with you instantly and pressures you.
- Bug you to give your personal contact details when they themselves don’t want to give you their personal contact information.
- Are not consistent in giving you information about their martial status, age, employment, among others.
- Avoid answering questions that are reasonable directly.
6. If somebody is bothering you already, stop sending him or her messages immediately.
Online dating is fun, but you have to be aware that it also has safety risks as well.

Easy Invention Ideas
Easy invention ideas? Why easy? Sometimes it’s just too intimidating to think about building a new type of car, television, or other complicated invention. So these are ideas for garage or basement tinkerers. Coming up with a prototype for most of these will cost no more than the money in your pocket. They are not patented yet, as far as I know.
Wild Game Carrier
Deer hunters regularly die of heart attacks while carrying their bucks out of the woods. The invention here would solve that problem. It would have an inflatable wheel, using coated nylon that won’t puncture easily. Once you get your deer, blow up the wheel, and using the clamps on either side, you attach two poles or sticks that you cut on site. Attach the simple nylon sling between the sticks, and you have a wheel-barrow-like device that will carry a deer over even rough trails. Probably weighing no more than two pounds, it could be carried easily in a day pack.
Helium Kites
Perhaps its been done, but I haven’t seen them sold yet. With some lift from the helium, these kites could be flown in any amount of wind. Properly designed, they would still fly something like a kite, and with some maneuverability if designed like a stunt kite. A first prototype could be a kite with a small helium balloon attached. That’s an easy invention.
Ad Kites
This is more of a marketing idea than an invention. Have advertisements on kites and get paid to fly them at the beach or during big outdoor events. In my former small-town home they paid for planes to drag ads around during festivals, so the market might be there.
Disposable Clothing
If dollar stores can keep putting t-shirts on the shelves, we know they are getting cheap to make. So how about a line of shirts that are low-quality, but good enough to use, and cost very little to manufacture? You sell them in boxes of 12, as “disposable clothing.” Where’s the market? Maybe people who want less laundry to do on long trips. I set aside old clothes for just that purpose, which is where the idea came from. Also, some people might want to have some cheap things to wear for doing dirty jobs.
Kayak Shoes
Imagine this: You are wearing two little “kayaks” on your feet. Two more smaller ones at the end of two ski-poles help you balance as you walk across the nearest lake. At 8 feet long and 8 inches around, they would hold about 170 pounds each, by the way. To try this one, remember that to figure the volume of a cylindrical object, you multiply pi (3.14) times the radius squared times the length. Oh, and each cubic foot of air will support about 64 pounds.
Wind Tents
An easy invention idea from childhood. Me and my brothers spent summers at the beach, on Lake Michigan. Many nights, the wind blew steady off the water, and we discovered that we could make a “wind tent” out of an old blanket. With three sides pinned down, using rocks and sand, the wind held the “tent” open. We camped out in these tents, although when the wind died, the tent did. Maybe someone could make and market a plastic version. A colorful square of plastic – this is one of the easiest of the easy invention ideas.
